Darrell Duane Smith & Energae / I-Lenders
We are investigating financial advisor Darrell Duane Smith for sales of Energae/I-Lenders. Mr. Smith in March of 2012 was “permitted to resign” after “a client alleged he signed a variable annuity application with the client’s consent, in violation of the firm’s policies.” Darrell Smith also has at least three customer complaints on his CRD report. According to a recently filed FINRA arbitration claim, Smith allegedly misled investors to believe he would invest their savings safely for high returns and tax benefits in an North Dakota ethanol production program called Energae/I-Lenders. His former employer, Cetera Advisors formerly known as Multi-Financial Securities Corp. (from February 2001 until March of 2012) was responsible for supervising his activities during the time he was affiliated with them. Often in these sorts of cases, there are red flags of potential misconduct that should have alerted the brokerage firm to his wrongdoing. For clients of Darrell Smith who wish to sue him, Multi-Financial Securities might be the best target due to their supervisory obligations over him.
